| Things to think about before you get a lab 1. Labs are known for retrieving, but they are also know for chewing and chewing and shredding and chewing some more. They will only chew until they are 2 years old, if you are lucky. 2. Labrador Retrievers are “puppies” and act like 60-80 pound puppies until the age of 2 years old. 3. Labrador Retrievers shed and shed and shed more. They shed all year round. 4. Labs are working dogs and if they are not kept busy, they will find something to do. Appropriate or not. 5. Labs need a lot of playtime, exercise and room to run. 6. Labs learn very fast, if they are left alone they will learn bad habits. 7. Labs are curious, social creatures, they will roam if they are allowed to do so. 8. Labs produce a lot of “poop“. 9. Vet care, food and medicines are expensive. Labs can live up to 16 years.
